4-3, 72 % to Win, Top 8, 1 Outs, ___, Albert Pujols home run off pitcher David Weathers.
I stole this handy chart from Derrick Goold’s 10@10. Basically you’re looking at Pujols’ nine seasons of Triple Crown stats through June 30th. Batting average, home runs, RBI’s.
- 2001 … .344 … 21 … 66 — wins NL Rookie of the Year
- 2002 … .283 … 16 … 54
- 2003 … .386 … 23 … 72
- 2004 … .300 … 20 … 52
- 2005 … .339 … 20 … 64 — wins NL MVP
- 2006 … .304 … 26 … 67 — sets career highs in RBIs, HR
- 2007 … .306 … 16 … 48
- 2008 … .357 … 17 … 47 — wins NL MVP
- 2009 … .332 … 30 … 77
I’ll let you make your own predictions, but as many people in the comments at 10@10 have already said, the bottom line is that we need baserunners and Albert needs more protection or the Triple Crown will pass him by easily. I think we’re all expecting to see more walks after the All-Star break as well, which won’t be helping anything.
We interrupt the soccer coverage (2-2) to let you know Pujols is beating the Twins. The Cardinals, however, are not.
