The fourth quarter finally begins with Arkansas leading 63-20
I am glad to see that of the two options, the SEC went with a) punishing the coaches rather than b) improving the officiating.
Ridiculous.
Mullen said it’s understandable if a field official makes a mistake because of the speed of the game, but the replay official can take his time and should be held accountable.
Linebacker Dustin Doe scored a touchdown after returning an interception in the fourth quarter, putting the Gators up 29-13. Replays appeared to show Brandon McRae stripped the ball from the celebrating linebacker short of the goal line.
Mississippi State ended up losing the game 29-19, but going into that last drive the score should have only been 22-19. Being down a field goal would have kept the offense going as opposed to the defeated attitude they played with during the last minute. This is two games in a row for Florida in which blown calls potentially changed the outcome of the game.
When ESPN replayed the alleged touchdown last night it was pretty obvious that the ball was not in possession when Florida crossed the endzone, but there may have been some room for discussion. However, not 5 seconds after the replay official allows the touchdown, ESPN shows a still photo of the moment the endzone was crossed and the ball was not seen dropping to the ground. I’ve learned a little bit about MLB replay this past season, but I’m unsure of how it works for NCAA and ESPN. Is ESPN or NCAA controlling those replay feeds? I don’t know, but it would be an interesting question to ask. I think for regulatory purposes it would have to be NCAA, but the feed has to come from some one be it ESPN, CBS, ABC, etc.
“I go back with coach Nutt a long ways, but he knows I’m like him. We’re both competitive,” Mallett said. “So on Saturday it’s going to be no holds barred. Let’s go.”
So we win now right? Right?! I really think I’m going to be sick.
The officiating crew from Saturday’s Arkansas at Florida football game will be removed from its next scheduled assignment on Oct. 31 and will not be assigned to officiate as a crew until Nov. 14, Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive announced Wednesday.
“A series of calls that have occurred during the last several weeks have not been to the standard that we expect from our officiating crews,” said Slive. “I believe our officiating program is the best in the country, however, there are times when these actions must be taken.”
…
“While only a few calls have been identified, the entire crew shoulders responsibility for each play. I have taken this action because there must be accountability in our officiating program,” added Slive. “Our institutions expect the highest level of officiating in all of our sports and it is the duty of the conference office to uphold that expectation.”
In addition, there will be an impact on eligibility for post-season bowl assignments for the crew.
JUSTICE!!!! RT @NWARobbie: We just got word that the SEC has suspended the officiating crew from the Florida-Arkansas game until Nov. 14.
Before yesterday, Tim Tebow had been sacked four times this season. Arkansas gladly more than doubled that number and took Tebow down six times during last night’s game.
I loved every one of them.
Today is a big day. I’m excited. I’m so ready. I’m so scared. Like Jessie Spano scared.
I have full faith in both of my teams. Arkansas is taking on #17 Auburn at 12pm ET. We need this win. Anything can happen in the SEC and today could be our day. Everything will have to go according to plan. No mistakes. This is our season.
And then, as you all know, Game 3 at 6pm. I’ve forgotten about Thursday. Thursday is over. We’re back at Busch with the best fans and I know we can do this. This is why we love October. This is our season.
As a warning to people who read this and also know me personally, if things go bad and go bad fast you may want to just find me and put me in a cab and send me home. Then again, if things go well it could easily be necessary to do the same.
It’s going to be a long day, but it’s worth it. It doesn’t get better than this. This is why we’re fans.
