Rick Ankiel's Mustache

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ole Miss isn’t a great football team. Ole Miss isn’t even a very good football team. So what is Ole Miss? I’ll tell you. Ole Miss is an example of the dangers of groupthink and greatness-by-association. Ole Miss football represents many of the evils that plague society.

I have nothing to add to this, except I told you so.

Go Gamecocks!

I forgot college football was on tonight.  This is a good opportunity for the nation to see how overrated Ole Miss reallly is this season.

Ok Tennessee

We both know I hate the color orange, but can you please put up a fight against Florida today.

Please.

That would involve not letting them run back the kickoff.

Thanks.

College GameDay Week Two!

I know I’m late, but Arkansas isn’t playing today so I took advantage and slept in.  Here’s today’s SEC schedule with my picks in bold.  Apparently it’s a weekend for home teams.  The three conference games could get interesting and those games could easily go either way.  Vanderbilt, maybe not.

  • Troy at Florida - 12:21pm (Go Troy!)
  • UCLA at Tennessee - 4pm
  • Mississippi St. at Auburn - 7pm
  • South Carolina at Georgia - 7pm
  • Vanderbilt at LSU - 7pm
  • Florida Int’l at Alabama - 7pm

And then there is the rivalry of all rivals.  Michigan hasn’t shown us much but I’m pulling for them.  I admit to laughing at them during the App. State game, but we’ve put that behind us.

  • Notre Dame at Michigan - 3:30pm

Nothing on the rest of the schedule is really sticking out at me as being exciting. (I have no desire to watch a USC game.)  Can we all atleast agree on how awesome it would be if Troy pulled out a miracle today?      (I reserve the right to say this every week about Florida’s opponent.)

Night of Wins!
I’ll admit that I love the times of year that baseball overlaps college sports.  It can make some things tricky with watch parties and such but it’s all worth it on nights like this.
I’ll also admit that I didn’t watch the Cardinals game, nor did I know the full story of what happened last night until my morning phone call with my mom about an hour ago.  I had no idea Pujols came off the bench as a pinch hitter for that home run.  Honestly.  I even posted a lineup and I still didn’t even think about it.  Don’t forget - today’s a day game.
Arkansas came out strong against Missouri State with a record setting 447 passing yards and ended up with a 48-10 win.  QB Ryan Mallett looked great and excited to play football again after sitting out last year after a transfer from Michigan.  Last year’s season opener was not as pretty and set the tone for the rest of the season so let’s hope for the opposite this year.  We’re off next weekend, but will face Georgia on Sept. 19th.
As for the rest of the SEC, Georgia was the only let down.  LSU struggled for a bit but finally pulled out ahead for a win.  Alabama had a great game against Va. Tech and Florida… well… whatever.  Now it’s time for us to start to beat the hell out of each other which is when I start to get really nervous and turn into that person that has to pace the floor at the bar.
Oh, and Ole Miss plays Memphis today.

  • W. Kentucky at Tennessee - 12:21pm
  • Georgia at Oklahoma St. - 3:30pm
  • Jackson St. at Mississippi St. - 3:30pm
  • Louisiana Tech at Auburn - 7pm

I think we’ll be able to walk away with wins across the board this week.  Again, this early in the season I have to pull for the SEC.  We have plenty of time to beat each other up later.

Georgia & Alabama - you have some work to do.
