Not exactly what I had in mind.

Tony isn’t going to let them celebrate tonight regardless so we might as well just keep waiting.

Also, Ankiel would have made that play at home. I’m just sayin’.

Notice of Non-Celebratory Activity

Just a reminder that even if the Cardinals clinch tonight, the celebration will not be this evening.

Because Tony La Russa said so.

Carry on.

The Cardinals knew of the Cubs’ loss before they took their last at-bat of the game. The tying run never got to the plate, and the champagne will have to wait. The bottles were boxed for the flight to Colorado. The goggles to protect the eyes, still hung with care in some lockers after the game, were packed. The revelry delayed by at least a day.

Hold the Champagne

That’s just depressing.  Cubs, you can go ahead and have your win tonight.  It’s ok with me.

Today’s Magic Number: Ozzie Smith
Probably safe to say the reason most of us watched/played/dreamed baseball when we were kids.

If it happens, we celebrate.

THE STAKES: The Cardinals are exploiting Houston’s cozy ballpark to get their inconsistent offense going again. After scoring just 11 runs in their previous five games, they scored 18 times in two games against the Astros.

That is a welcome development. So is the reduction of their magic number, which now stands at two. The Cards are about to clinch the National League Central title. Once that is out of the way, the team can focus on postseason preparations.
