Ozzie Smith wants to be more involved Come home, Ozzie!! |

As a kid I used to mull over scenarios in which a dude could have 100 RBI with zero homers*, mostly inspired by the above season. Two Cardinals, this era, came roughly the closest: T. Herr 8-110 in ‘85; Ozzie 0-75 in ‘87. Ozzie’s runner-up MVP ‘87 season held the following line: .303/.392/.393 .775 OPS which was v. Rollins-like for a guy “paid $2M a year for his superb glove” as put by an almanacy baseball book I read back then. In a live-ball season it was totally impressive ballot-wise.
*won’t ever happen
It’s my tumblrversary which means I will reblog the shit out of some Ozzie Smith.
Jack Buck’s call of Ozzie’s Game 5 HR in 1985 NLCS.
I’m holding back tears here at my desk.

In honor of the Cardinals’ current magic number — ONE — here’s video of The Wizard, Ozzie Smith, doubling off Hideo Nomo in an exhibition game back in 1992. All it’s missing is a backflip into second base.
Oh, here’s some more Ozzie fun.

Today’s Magic Number: Ozzie Smith
Probably safe to say the reason most of us watched/played/dreamed baseball when we were kids.
