Cardinals beat Athletics 4-3, 6/19/2010

Last pitch, last out. Jason Motte’s game ending 99 mph fastball. Fireworks at Busch Stadium for every Cardinal homerun and win. People living downtown must never get any peace!

Eric wins for best post of the month.

4 IP, ER. We’ll take that.
And yes, this is a 2010 picture.

Derrick Goold posted some video of Arkansas’/Cardinal’s Zack Cox taking batting practice in Arizona.

Razorbacks are in Arizona, Cardinals are in Arizona… Cards tweeters are now covering Arkansas’ run to the College World Series…

And you guys think I’m crazy for running this blog. I knew this day was coming all along.

The newest St. Louis Cardinal - 3B Zack Cox

stlsports:

The Cardinals used their first of three first-round draft picks on Zack Cox, third baseman for the Arkansas Razorbacks. The junior is batting .424 this season - his season stats are here.

Cox has nine homers so far this season, this one shows his range at the plate. Good look at his swing here, although he works to make this one happen.

Kind of an awkward interview…

The Cardinals also have taken two right-handed pitchers in Seth Davis (Arizona State) and Tyrell Jenkins (Henderson HS, TX). More on them shortly…

Arkansas’ Zack Cox to St. Louis Cardinals!

Sadly, he just got pulled from tonight’s game for ‘tweaking’ his back, but you guys will love him.

Before Albert Pujols homered in the first inning of the Cardinals 5-4 win against the Brewers, he had gone 93 at bats without a home run at home. His longest home drought since 2001 to 2002 when he went 73 at bats. (Any surprise that it came off of Chris Narveson, the least imposing starting pitcher a team could pick?)
Anyways, it’s good to have you back, Albert.

Against the Brewers on Friday night, Wainwright threw a complete game shutout on two hits for his first career shutout. Despite taking 97 major league starts before his first, we should start expecting more of these. After all, he’s very good at baseball. Here’s some evidence:

ERA is now 2.05.
Ken Macha on Wainwright’s performance: “We’ve been shut out a few times but that’s the best pitching performance we’ve seen all year. That curveball was so good.”
Wainwright has gone at least six innings in all 12 outings this season.
Just a little thing, but he did finish third in the Cy Young balloting last season.
He seems like a nice guy.

Yep. Taken all together and I think we’ll be watching a few more complete games soon.
